RPG Update: May 12, 2015

I’ve been slowly progressing through programming and development of the RPG I’m creating with RPG Maker VX Ace. I have to balance a lot of things in life, and various projects, so it’s quite slow going and I don’t yet have an estimated finish date. However, my friends are awesome and donating characters for NPCs (and one PC).

RPGMakerScreenshot8RPGMakerScreenshot10The most exciting news is that I now have a quest system in place, thanks to Modern Algebra’s Quest Journal scripting.

RPGMakerScreenshot7As you can see, there aren’t any quests currently programmed — yet. I’m just excited to show off that the programming has begun! It’s not a complicated script to use, either, unlike some other similar scripting that’s available. I had to ‘shop’ around for a good few hours before I found one that worked with a layout and simple-to-use programming scripts. I’ll probably never know why RPG Maker doesn’t come with a built-in quest system, but luckily there are MANY programmers out there willing to share their work.

RPGMakerScreenshot6And then there’s this. The most tedious and hated part of developing the game. Spending time to label every. single. tile. on the maps. It doesn’t seem like it would be much of a problem, but it just isn’t as fun as creating the map itself. SIGH.,
